Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct
The Egyptian Sleep Society (ESS) is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct in the practice of sleep medicine, research, and education. All members are expected to uphold these principles in their professional activities.
1. Patient Care & Clinical Practice
- Members shall prioritize patient welfare and safety in all clinical decisions related to sleep medicine.
- Members shall provide competent, evidence-based care and maintain current knowledge of sleep medicine advancements.
- Members shall respect patient autonomy, informed consent, and confidentiality in all clinical interactions.
- Members shall not discriminate against patients based on age, gender, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, or disability.
2. Research & Scientific Integrity
- Members shall conduct research with honesty, transparency, and adherence to established ethical guidelines.
- Members shall obtain appropriate institutional review board (IRB) or ethics committee approval before conducting human subjects research.
- Members shall accurately report research findings and disclose any conflicts of interest.
- Members shall give proper credit and attribution to collaborators and prior work.
3. Professional Relationships
- Members shall maintain respectful and collegial relationships with fellow professionals, trainees, and support staff.
- Members shall foster an inclusive and supportive environment within the society and the broader medical community.
- Members shall not engage in harassment, discrimination, or any form of professional misconduct.
4. Conflicts of Interest
- Members shall disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that may influence their professional judgment.
- Members shall not accept gifts, incentives, or compensation that could compromise their objectivity or professional integrity.
- Members shall maintain transparency in their relationships with industry partners and sponsors.
5. Education & Mentorship
- Members shall contribute to the education and training of the next generation of sleep medicine professionals.
- Members shall share knowledge and expertise generously through society programs, congresses, and publications.
- Members shall provide honest and constructive feedback to trainees and colleagues.
6. Public Responsibility
- Members shall promote public awareness of sleep health and the importance of addressing sleep disorders.
- Members shall represent the society and the profession with integrity in all public communications.
- Members shall advocate for policies that improve access to quality sleep healthcare.
7. Compliance & Enforcement
All ESS members are expected to comply with this Code of Ethics. Violations may be subject to review by the ESS Ethics Committee, and may result in sanctions including, but not limited to, warning, suspension, or revocation of membership.
